XO CPT Michael Layne seems to have gotten himself into an Imperial entanglement of another kind in a round of "Evil Stevie's Pirate Game" at Rising Star West. Rising Star West was a one-time event to determine the feasibility of moving the Rising Star Convention to the Bluefield area. With only a minor loss in attendance and better profits, the decision was made to move Rising Star to Bluefield on a permanent basis, starting in 2007 with Rising Star 16. Additionally, the decision was made to turn Rising Star into a USS Yeager-sponsored event, to take advantage of Yeager's privileges as a Bluefield State College organization.

During the month of July, members of USS Yeager built a "Downhill Derby" car for the Downtown Bluefield Festival. Lack of time prevented us from fine tuning the car into a winner, but local kids, like our driver, seen here, had a lot of fun just pushing the "shuttlecar" up and down the street.

The car was an original design inspired by Next Generation-era shuttles by COMO Jerry Conner. It was constructed by Conner and Chief Engineer Tony Sanders, with assistance from Dave Corcoran and Bob Cook.
